"Does using an anonymity proxy actually protect your identity?"

Hey guys, been wondering about this for a while. So like, if I use an anonymity proxy, am I *really* hidden? Or is it just a false sense of security?

I get that it hides my IP, but what about cookies, browser fingerprints, or even DNS leaks? Feels like there’s gotta be more to it.

And can’t the proxy itself log my data? Seen some sketchy free ones out there.

What’s your take? Is an anonymity proxy enough, or do I need to stack more tools?

(Also, pls no "just use Tor" replies—I know, but curious about proxies specifically.)

An anonymity proxy alone isn't enough if you're serious about hiding your identity. Sure, it masks your IP, but like you said, browser fingerprints and cookies can still expose you.

I'd recommend pairing it with a privacy-focused browser like Brave or Firefox with strict anti-tracking settings. Also, check out tools like uBlock Origin to block trackers.

For DNS leaks, use something like Cloudflare's 1.1.1.1 or Quad9. And yeah, avoid free proxies—they’re often shady. Paid ones like NordVPN or ProtonVPN have better no-log policies.

Honestly, proxies are kinda meh for real anonymity. They’re better for bypassing geo-blocks than hiding your identity.

If you’re just trying to stay private, a VPN + Tor combo is way stronger. But if you’re stuck on proxies, at least use a trusted one like Private Internet Access and enable DNS leak protection.

Also, clear your cookies regularly and use a separate browser profile. Otherwise, you’re still leaving breadcrumbs.

Proxies are a mixed bag. They *can* hide your IP, but like you mentioned, they often leak other stuff.

Try testing your setup with sites like ipleak.net or browserleaks.com. They’ll show you what’s actually leaking.

And yeah, free proxies are risky—some even inject malware. If you must use one, stick to reputable paid options.

Anonymity proxies are like wearing a mask but forgetting to cover your tattoos. IP is just one part.

You gotta think about WebRTC leaks, canvas fingerprinting, and even your timezone settings. Tools like CanvasBlocker and Privacy Badger help.

Also, never log into anything personal while using a proxy. That’s a dead giveaway.

Proxies are a start, but they’re not foolproof. If you’re serious about privacy, layer up.

Use a VPN first, then route through an anonymity proxy. Add Tor if you’re extra paranoid.

And always check for leaks! DNSleaktest.com is your friend.

Free proxies? Big nope. They log everything and sell your data.

If you’re gonna use an anonymity proxy, go for something like Mullvad or IVPN. They’re transparent about logging.

Also, disable JavaScript—it’s a fingerprinting nightmare.

Proxies are like a cheap lock on a door. Better than nothing, but not secure.

You need to harden your browser too. Firefox with resistfingerprinting enabled is a good start.

And don’t forget about your OS—Windows 10/11 telemetry will screw you over.

Anonymity proxies are overrated unless you’re just trying to hide from your ISP.

For real privacy, you need a VPN + proxy + Tor chain. And even then, don’t log into anything.

Check out Whonix or Tails if you’re serious.

Proxies are fine for casual stuff, but they won’t stop a determined tracker.

Use a combo of tools: VPN for the connection, proxy for extra hops, and a privacy browser.

And always assume the proxy is logging you.
