How to Use ChatGPT to Summarize a Web Page: Any Tips or Best Practices? - darkDart77 - 26-07-2024

Hey everyone,
I’ve been trying to figure out how to use ChatGPT to summarize a web page, but I’m not entirely sure if I’m doing it right. Like, do I just copy-paste the whole text or is there a smarter way?

I’ve heard some people say you can just drop the URL, but idk if that works for all sites. Also, how do you make sure the summary isn’t too vague or misses key points?

Any tips or best practices on how to use ChatGPT to summarize a web page would be super helpful! Maybe someone’s got a workflow or a prompt they swear by?

Thanks in advance! Smile

Hey! So, I’ve been using ChatGPT to summarize web pages for a while now, and here’s what works for me: I usually copy-paste the main text (not the whole page, just the important bits) and ask ChatGPT to summarize it in bullet points.

If the page is too long, I break it into chunks. Dropping URLs doesn’t always work, especially for paywalled or dynamic sites.

For better results, I use prompts like “Summarize this in 3 key points” or “Explain this like I’m 5.” Works like a charm!

Yo, I feel you! I tried the URL thing, and it’s hit or miss. Sometimes ChatGPT can’t access the content, so I just copy-paste the text.

Pro tip: Use tools like SMMRY or TLDR This to pre-summarize the page, then refine it with ChatGPT. Saves time and keeps the summary tight.

Also, try prompts like “What are the main takeaways from this?” or “Highlight the most important details.” Makes a huge diff!

Honestly, I’ve found that ChatGPT works best when you feed it clean, concise text. If you’re summarizing a web page, strip out ads, headers, and footers first.

I use a Chrome extension like Reader Mode to clean up the page, then paste the text into ChatGPT.

For prompts, I go with “Summarize this in 200 words” or “What’s the core message here?” Works pretty well for me!

Hey! I’ve been experimenting with how to use ChatGPT to summarize a web page, and here’s what I’ve learned:

- Copy-pasting the entire text can overwhelm ChatGPT, so I focus on the main sections.
- If the page is too long, I summarize it in parts and then combine the results.
- For prompts, I use “Give me a concise summary of this” or “What are the key points?”

Also, tools like Resoomer or SummarizeBot can help pre-process the text before feeding it to ChatGPT.

I’ve had mixed results with dropping URLs, so I stick to copy-pasting. One thing that helps is asking ChatGPT to summarize in stages. Like, first get the gist, then ask for more details if needed.

For prompts, I use “Break this down into 3-5 key points” or “What’s the TLDR of this?”

Also, if you’re summarizing a lot, check out tools like Wordtune or Jasper. They’re great for quick summaries!

Hey there! I’ve been using ChatGPT to summarize web pages for work, and here’s my go-to method:

1. Copy the main content (skip ads and fluff).
2. Paste it into ChatGPT with a clear prompt like “Summarize this in 100 words” or “What’s the main idea?”
3. If the summary feels off, I tweak the prompt or ask follow-up questions.

For longer pages, I split the text into sections. Works like a charm!

I’ve been using ChatGPT to summarize web pages for a while, and here’s what I’ve found:

- Dropping URLs doesn’t always work, so I copy-paste the text.
- I use prompts like “Summarize this in 3 sentences” or “What’s the TLDR?”
- For better results, I clean up the text first using tools like CleanReader or JustRead.

Also, if you’re summarizing a lot, consider using a tool like Quillbot to pre-process the text.

Hey! I’ve been trying to figure out how to use ChatGPT to summarize a web page too, and here’s what’s worked for me:

- I copy-paste the main text and ask ChatGPT to summarize it in bullet points.
- If the page is too long, I break it into chunks.
- For prompts, I use “What are the key takeaways?” or “Summarize this in 200 words.”

Wow, thanks so much for all the tips, everyone! I tried copy-pasting the main text and using prompts like “Summarize this in 3 key points,” and it worked way better than just dropping the URL.

I also checked out SMMRY and Resoomer, and they’re super helpful for cleaning up the text first.

One follow-up question though: How do you handle pages with a lot of technical jargon? Should I still summarize it in parts, or is there a better way?

Thanks again, you guys are awesome!
