Hey guys,
So I’ve been trying to connect my PS5 to the internet, but it keeps saying "ps5 can't obtain ip address." Like, wtf? I’ve restarted the console, reset my router, and even tried a wired connection, but no luck.
Anyone else dealing with this? It’s driving me nuts lol. I’ve seen a few threads about it, but nothing’s worked so far.
Is it a PS5 thing or my network? Help a bro out pls.

Hey, I had the same issue with my PS5 can't obtain ip address error. Turns out it was my router's DHCP settings. I logged into my router (usually 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1) and made sure DHCP was enabled. Fixed it right up! Maybe give that a shot?
Also, if you're not sure how to access your router settings, just google your router model + "login guide."

Bro, I feel you. This ps5 can't obtain ip address thing is so annoying. I fixed mine by manually setting a static IP on the PS5. Go to Settings > Network > Set Up Internet Connection > Custom. Then, when it asks for IP settings, choose Manual and enter the details. Just make sure the IP isn't already taken by another device.
If you need help finding your network details, check your router or use an app like Fing to scan your network.

Yo, I had this exact problem last week. My fix was super simple—I just changed the DNS settings on my PS5. Go to Settings > Network > Set Up Internet Connection > Custom, and when it asks for DNS, use 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 (Google DNS). Worked like a charm for me.
If that doesn’t work, maybe try resetting your network settings on the PS5? Sometimes it’s just a glitch.

Dude, I had the same problem, and it was driving me crazy. Turns out my ISP was blocking the PS5 for some reason. I called them, and they fixed it on their end. Maybe give your ISP a shout?

Hey, I fixed my ps5 can't obtain ip address issue by changing the MTU settings. Go to Settings > Network > Set Up Internet Connection > Custom, and set the MTU to 1473. It’s a weird fix, but it worked for me.
If that doesn’t help, maybe try power cycling your router and PS5 at the same time. Sometimes it’s just a timing issue.

I had this problem too, and it turned out to be a MAC address conflict. I went into my router settings and cleared the DHCP lease table. After that, my PS5 connected fine.
If you’re not sure how to do that, just google your router model + "clear DHCP leases." It’s usually pretty straightforward.

Thanks for all the suggestions, guys! I tried the static IP thing, and it worked for a bit, but then the ps5 can't obtain ip address error came back. I’m gonna try updating my router firmware next and see if that helps.
Also, I called my ISP, and they said everything looks fine on their end. Has anyone else had this issue with a specific router model? I’m using a Netgear Nighthawk, btw.
