How to Get yfinance Python Real-Time Quotes and Percentage Change for Stocks? - IPNinja33 - 30-08-2024

Hey everyone,

So I’ve been trying to figure out how to get yfinance python real time quotes and percentage change for stocks. I’m kinda new to this, and I’ve been messing around with the library but can’t seem to get the real-time data consistently.

Like, I know yfinance is supposed to pull live-ish data, but sometimes it feels delayed or just not updating properly. Anyone else run into this?

Also, calculating the percentage change is a bit confusing for me. I’ve got the basics down, but I’m not sure if I’m doing it the most efficient way.

Would love some tips or code snippets on how to get yfinance python real time quotes and percentage change working smoothly.

Thanks in advance!

Hey! I had the same issue with yfinance python real time quotes and percentage change. Turns out, yfinance isn’t truly real-time—it’s more like 15-minute delayed data. If you need true real-time, you might wanna check out Alpha Vantage or IEX Cloud. They’re paid but way more reliable for live data.

For percentage change, I usually calculate it like this:
```python
import yfinance as yf
stock = yf.Ticker("AAPL")
data = stock.history(period="1d")
data['Pct_Change'] = data['Close'].pct_change() * 100
print(data)
```
Hope that helps!

Yo, yfinance python real time quotes and percentage change can be a bit tricky. I’ve noticed the delay too, especially during high-volume trading hours. If you’re okay with the delay, yfinance is still a solid free option.

For percentage change, I’d recommend using pandas to make it easier. Here’s a quick snippet:
```python
import yfinance as yf
import pandas as pd
data = yf.download("AAPL", period="1d", interval="1m")
data['Pct_Change'] = data['Close'].pct_change() * 100
print(data.tail())
```
If you need more accuracy, maybe look into APIs like Polygon.io.

Hey there! I’ve been using yfinance python real time quotes and percentage change for a while now. The delay is kinda annoying, but it’s free, so can’t complain too much.

For percentage change, I use this method:
```python
import yfinance as yf
ticker = yf.Ticker("TSLA")
hist = ticker.history(period="1d", interval="1m")
hist['Pct_Change'] = hist['Close'].pct_change() * 100
print(hist[['Close', 'Pct_Change']])
```
If you’re looking for real-time data, maybe try Tradier or TD Ameritrade’s API. They’re a bit more advanced but worth it.

I feel you on the yfinance python real time quotes and percentage change struggle. It’s not perfect, but it’s decent for free. The delay is usually around 15 mins, so if you’re day trading, it might not cut it.

For percentage change, I do this:
```python
import yfinance as yf
data = yf.download("MSFT", period="1d", interval="1m")
data['Pct_Change'] = data['Close'].pct_change() * 100
print(data[['Close', 'Pct_Change']].tail())
```
If you need better real-time data, check out Alpaca. It’s free for paper trading and has pretty good live data.

Hey! I’ve been using yfinance python real time quotes and percentage change for a while, and yeah, the delay is a thing. It’s not ideal for super active trading, but for casual use, it’s fine.

Here’s how I calculate percentage change:
```python
import yfinance as yf
stock = yf.Ticker("GOOGL")
data = stock.history(period="1d", interval="1m")
data['Pct_Change'] = data['Close'].pct_change() * 100
print(data[['Close', 'Pct_Change']])
```
If you’re serious about real-time data, maybe look into Interactive Brokers. They’ve got a solid API for live quotes.

Yfinance python real time quotes and percentage change can be a bit hit or miss. I’ve found that the delay varies depending on the stock and market conditions.

For percentage change, I use this:
```python
import yfinance as yf
data = yf.download("AMZN", period="1d", interval="1m")
data['Pct_Change'] = data['Close'].pct_change() * 100
print(data[['Close', 'Pct_Change']].tail())
```
If you’re looking for alternatives, check out Quandl or Tiingo. They’ve got some good options for real-time data.

Hey! I’ve been using yfinance python real time quotes and percentage change for a while, and yeah, the delay is a bit annoying. But for free, it’s not bad.

Here’s how I handle percentage change:
```python
import yfinance as yf
ticker = yf.Ticker("NFLX")
data = ticker.history(period="1d", interval="1m")
data['Pct_Change'] = data['Close'].pct_change() * 100
print(data[['Close', 'Pct_Change']])
```
If you need better real-time data, maybe try Robinhood’s API or Webull. They’ve got some decent options.

Yfinance python real time quotes and percentage change can be a bit finicky, but it’s a good starting point. The delay is usually around 15 mins, so keep that in mind.

For percentage change, I use this:
```python
import yfinance as yf
data = yf.download("TSLA", period="1d", interval="1m")
data['Pct_Change'] = data['Close'].pct_change() * 100
print(data[['Close', 'Pct_Change']].tail())
```
If you’re looking for more reliable real-time data, check out TradeStation or eSignal. They’re paid but worth it if you’re serious.

Wow, thanks everyone for the tips! I didn’t realize yfinance python real time quotes and percentage change had such a delay. I’ll definitely check out Alpha Vantage and Alpaca for better real-time data.

I tried the percentage change code snippets you all shared, and they worked like a charm. Still getting the hang of pandas, but it’s way easier than what I was doing before.

Quick question though—anyone know if there’s a way to reduce the delay in yfinance, or is it just how it is? Also, has anyone tried combining yfinance with another API for better results?

Thanks again, you guys are awesome!
