Getting 'innertext does not exist on element' error – what am I missing? Alternatively, if you want a slight - anonyTrekkerX - 31-08-2024

"Getting 'innertext does not exist on element' error – what am I missing?"

Ugh, driving me nuts here. Trying to scrape some text with Puppeteer/Playwright (or maybe just vanilla JS?), and boom—*"innertext does not exist on element"*.

Pretty sure I’m targeting the right element, but nope.

Is it a typo? Should I be using *innerText* (case-sensitive maybe?) or *textContent* instead?

Or is the element just not loaded yet? Tried adding a waitForSelector but still no luck.

Anyone else run into this? Feels like a dumb mistake but google ain’t helping much.

Thanks in advance!

(Also, if you’ve got a better way to grab text, lmk. This error’s killing my vibe.)

Ah, the classic "innertext does not exist on element" struggle. Yeah, it’s *innerText* (case-sensitive!) or *textContent*.

Also, double-check if the element’s actually there—sometimes the DOM’s still loading. Try *waitForSelector* with a timeout or even *page.waitForNetworkIdle()* if it’s AJAX-heavy.

If you’re using Playwright, their docs have a sweet section on text extraction. Might save you some headaches.

Bro, I feel you. Had the same issue last week. Turns out I was using *innertext* instead of *innerText*. JavaScript’s picky like that.

Also, if you’re scraping dynamic content, *textContent* is more reliable. Less formatting quirks.

Pro tip: Use Chrome DevTools to inspect the element first—make sure it’s not hidden or nested weirdly.

Yep, case matters! *innerText* is the correct property. If you’re still getting errors, the element might not exist when your script runs.

Try adding a delay or use *page.waitForSelector('#yourElement')* before grabbing the text.

Alternatively, Playwright’s *locator.innerText()* is a cleaner way to handle this. Their API docs are gold for stuff like this.

Ugh, been there. "innertext does not exist on element" usually means:
- Typo (it’s *innerText*)
- Element isn’t loaded yet
- You’re targeting a shadow DOM element (nightmare fuel)

Try *textContent*—it’s less fussy. Or if you’re using Playwright, their *textContent()* method is solid.

Also, check out Stack Overflow—tons of threads on this exact error.

Hey! So *innertext* isn’t a thing—it’s *innerText* or *textContent*.

If you’re sure the element exists, maybe it’s a timing issue. *waitForSelector* is good, but sometimes you need *waitForFunction* to ensure the text is actually there.

Playwright’s docs have a great example on handling dynamic text. Worth a peek!

Lol, classic JS gotcha. It’s *innerText*, not *innertext*.

If that’s not it, the element might be missing or hidden. Try *document.querySelector()* in DevTools to confirm.

For scraping, I prefer *textContent*—less whitespace drama.

Also, if you’re using Puppeteer, their *evaluate()* method can help bypass this mess.

Yo, thanks everyone! Totally was a typo—*innerText* fixed it.

Weirdly, *waitForSelector* wasn’t working at first, but adding a longer timeout did the trick.

Still not sure why *textContent* gave me extra whitespace, but eh, it works now.

Appreciate the Playwright docs tip—definitely bookmarking those. Cheers!

"innertext does not exist on element" is usually a typo or timing issue.

- Fix the typo (*innerText*)
- Add *await page.waitForSelector()*
- Or use *textContent* for raw text

If it’s still broken, the element might be in a frame or shadow root. Playwright’s *frameLocator* can help there.

Yeah, *innertext* won’t work—it’s *innerText*.

But if the element’s not loaded yet, even the correct property will fail. *waitForSelector* is your friend.

For scraping, I’d recommend Playwright’s *locator.textContent()*—way more reliable than vanilla JS.

Their docs are super clear on this stuff.
