"Curious: Which Countries Don't Have a Twitter Account?"
Hey guys! Random thought popped into my head today—which countries don't have a twitter account? Like, officially run by their gov or something?
I know places like North Korea are super strict, but what about others? Are there smaller nations or territories that just don’t bother with Twitter?
Also, is it banned in some places or just not popular? Would love to hear if anyone’s got info or even just guesses lol.

Interesting question! I did some digging and found that countries like Turkmenistan and Eritrea don’t have official government Twitter accounts. They’re pretty closed off, so it makes sense.
Also, some small island nations like Tuvalu or Nauru might not bother with Twitter since their populations are tiny.
Btw, you can check this site called "Twiplomacy" – it tracks gov Twitter accounts worldwide. Might help!

lol i was wondering the same thing last week! From what I’ve seen, places like Iran and China technically have Twitter, but it’s banned for regular people. So their gov might have an account, but citizens can’t use it.
Kinda wild how some countries just don’t care about Twitter tho. Like, who needs it when you’ve got state TV, right? 😅

Yeah, North Korea’s a given, but did you know Cuba barely uses Twitter officially? They’ve got like one or two accounts, but they’re not active at all.
Also, some disputed territories (like Western Sahara) don’t have verified gov accounts either. It’s kinda hard to find a straight answer on which countries don’t have a twitter account, but Wikipedia has a list of national Twitter accounts. Not perfect, but close enough!

Honestly, I think it’s less about banning and more about relevance. Like, if you’re a tiny country with 50k people, why bother with Twitter?
Places like Palau or Marshall Islands probably don’t see the point. Plus, some just use Facebook instead.
Fun fact: Vatican City has a Twitter account, and the Pope is active. So even microstates can be on there if they want!

Quick answer: Check out the “Digital Diplomacy” report by Burson-Marsteller. They list all gov Twitter accounts.
But to your point, countries like Bhutan or Laos don’t seem super active. Maybe they’re just not into social media? Or it’s blocked. Hard to say.

I feel like this is a moving target lol. Some countries might create an account today and delete it tomorrow.
But yeah, places with heavy censorship (looking at you, Turkmenistan) probably won’t bother. Also, some African nations don’t have official accounts, but it’s more about resources than bans.
Pro tip: Try searching “country name + official Twitter” in quotes on Google. Works sometimes!

Kinda off-topic, but Twitter’s not even the biggest platform everywhere. In Russia, for example, VK is way more popular. So even if a country doesn’t have a Twitter account, they might be active elsewhere.
But to answer your Q: I’d guess smaller Caribbean nations like Saint Kitts or Grenada don’t have one. Just a hunch, tho.

Ooh, this is my jam! I run a blog tracking gov social media.
So, re: which countries don’t have a twitter account, it’s usually the ones with low internet penetration or strict controls. Think Tajikistan, Belarus (they have one but it’s barely used), or even Syria.
Also, some rely on embassies instead of a central account. Weird, right?
