Hey guys, kinda new to this whole networking stuff and keep hearing about proxies. But like... what is my proxy exactly? Is it some hidden setting or something?
I tried googling but all the explanations are way too technical. Like, why does it even matter if I have one or not?
Also, how do I even check what is my proxy? Is there a quick way to find out? And do I *need* one for normal browsing or just for sketchy stuff lol?
Any simple answers would be awesome. Thanks!

A proxy is basically a middleman between you and the internet. When you ask "what is my proxy," you're asking what server your traffic is passing through before reaching websites.
It matters because it can hide your real IP (good for privacy) or slow things down if it's a bad one.

I checked what is my proxy using the Windows settings trick, and turns out I wasn’t using one. Good to know I don’t *need* it for regular stuff.
But now I’m curious—if I wanted to try one for fun, which free proxy isn’t totally sketchy? Or should I just avoid free ones?

Proxies reroute your traffic. Simple as that.
Why bother? Privacy (kinda), bypassing filters, or testing geolocked content.
To check what is my proxy, Firefox users: Options > General > Network Settings.
Tools? whoer.net works.
Need one daily? Doubt it.
