"Does a Google proxy server actually hide your IP address?"

Hey guys, been wondering about this... if I use a Google proxy server, does it *really* hide my IP? Or is it just kinda masking it temporarily?

I’ve heard mixed things—some say it’s solid for basic privacy, others claim it’s not *truly* anonymous. Like, does Google still see my real IP behind the scenes?

Also, how’s the speed? Proxy servers can be hit or miss, and if it’s laggy, what’s even the point lol.

Anyone got real experience with a Google proxy server? Or should I just stick to a VPN?

Thx for any tips!

Nah, a Google proxy server isn't the same as a VPN. It might hide your IP from the site you're visiting, but Google itself can still see your real IP.

If you're after real anonymity, try something like Tor or a no-logs VPN (NordVPN or ProtonVPN).

Speed-wise, proxies are usually faster than VPNs, but yeah, it's a trade-off. Privacy? Meh. Speed? Decent.

Honestly, if you're just trying to bypass geo-blocks or basic tracking, a Google proxy server might work *okay*. But for serious privacy? Nope.

Google logs everything, so your "hidden" IP is still in their system.

For better options, check out Smartproxy or Luminati—they’re more reliable for masking IPs.

I’ve used a Google proxy server before, and it’s... fine? Like, it changes your IP, but like others said, Google knows who you are.

Speed’s not bad though! Way better than some crappy free VPNs.

If you’re just casually browsing, it’s alright. But for *real* privacy, nah. Mullvad VPN is way better.

Proxies are like wearing a mask at a party—people don’t see *your* face, but the host (Google) knows exactly who you are.

A Google proxy server isn’t built for anonymity. It’s more for load balancing or caching.

Want actual privacy? Use Windscribe or Surfshark. Way better for hiding your IP *and* keeping speeds decent.

Google proxy server =/= privacy tool. It’s more for businesses or devs, not hiding your IP long-term.

Yeah, it masks your IP *temporarily*, but logs exist. And if you’re worried about speed, just get a paid VPN with a lightweight protocol (like WireGuard).

Check out IVPN—solid speeds and no logs.

OP here—thanks for all the replies! Super helpful.

Sounds like a Google proxy server isn’t the move for real privacy. I’ll probably test out NordVPN or ProtonVPN like some of you suggested.

Quick follow-up: anyone know if these VPNs slow down streaming? Like, Netflix buffers a lot with proxies, but what about VPNs?

(Also, big thanks for the proxy alternatives—didn’t even know about Smartproxy or Luminati!)

Kinda depends what you’re using it for. A Google proxy server is great if you’re testing geo-specific content or scraping (carefully lol).

But for hiding your IP from *everyone*? Nah. Google’s still watching.

If speed’s a big deal, maybe try Private Internet Access? Their proxy servers are pretty quick too.
