Hey, what can someone actually do with my IP address?
Kinda freaked out after some rando in a game chat threatened to "hack me" using my IP. Like, how much should I worry?
I know they can *roughly* see my location (not my exact house, but close enough). And maybe DDOS me if they’re bored? But can they like... steal my data or something?
Also, how do I even protect myself? VPN? Restarting router? Pls help, I’m not techy lol.

I reset my router like some of you said, and my IP changed (checked with whatsmyip.com). Also downloaded ProtonVPN just in case.
One follow-up: If they already had my old IP, can they still do anything with it after it’s changed? Or is it useless now?
(Also, big relief knowing they can’t actually hack me lol.)
