Does Windows Rotate the MAC Address Automatically? - MaskedOne - 02-12-2024

Hey everyone!

I’ve been curious about something—does windows rotate the mac address automatically?

I’ve heard mixed opinions on this topic, and I’m not sure what to believe.

Like, I know that some systems have this feature for privacy reasons, but does Windows actually do this by default?

If it doesn’t, is there a way to enable it?

I just want to make sure my network security is solid, and if rotating the MAC address helps with that, I’d love to know how to set it up.

What are your thoughts or experiences on this?

Thanks in advance! 😊

Exactly! Windows 10 and later versions have a feature for randomizing MAC addresses, but it’s not activated for all networks.

You can enable it in the network settings under "Wi-Fi" > "Hardware properties."

I really appreciate the info!

If anyone knows how to set up a more permanent solution for rotating the MAC address, I’d love those tips as well!

If you want to manually change your MAC address, there are tools available like Technitium MAC Address Changer that make it easy.

Just be cautious with how often you change it, as some networks might flag that behavior.

I’ve looked into this too, and from what I understand, Windows does not rotate the MAC address automatically by default.

You have to set it up yourself if you want to change it for privacy reasons.

Thanks for the clarity, everyone!

I’m going to check out the settings and see if I can enable the random MAC address feature.

If I find anything useful, I’ll share it with you all! 😊

I’ve found that rotating your MAC address can improve privacy, especially when connecting to public networks.

But for home use, it might not be necessary unless you have specific concerns.
