Subject: Stuck with Proxy Issues – How to Remove Proxy Completely?
Hey everyone,
I’m kinda lost here. My device’s been acting up, and I think it’s because of some leftover proxy settings. I tried figuring out how to remove proxy stuff, but I keep getting errors or it just doesn’t stick.
Anyone know how to remove proxy settings *completely*? Like, step by step? I’m on Windows 10, but tips for other OS are cool too.
Also, if you’ve faced this before, did you have to restart or anything after? I’m worried I’m missing something simple.

Hey! I had the same issue last week. For Windows 10, go to Settings > Network & Internet > Proxy.
Under "Manual proxy setup," toggle off "Use a proxy server." Then, scroll down and click "Script setup" to make sure nothing’s enabled there too.
Restart your PC after—it helps! To check if it’s really gone, open Command Prompt and type `netsh winhttp show proxy`. If it says "Direct access," you’re good!

Ugh, proxy stuff is such a pain. If the normal settings don’t work, try this:
1. Press Win + R, type `inetcpl.cpl`, and hit Enter.
2. Go to the "Connections" tab and click "LAN settings."
3. Uncheck EVERYTHING in that window, especially "Use a proxy server."
Sometimes browsers override system settings, so clear your browser’s cache too. Chrome loves to hold onto old proxies for some reason.

Bro, I feel you. Had this nightmare last month. If you’re still stuck, try using a tool like "Proxy Switcher" or "NirSoft’s BrowserTools" to wipe all proxy traces.
Also, run `ipconfig /flushdns` in CMD after removing the proxy. Sometimes DNS caches keep the old settings alive.

For a *complete* removal, don’t forget registry edits (but be careful!).
Press Win + R, type `regedit`, and navigate to:
`HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings`
Look for "ProxyEnable" and set its value to 0. Backup the registry first tho!
Restart after, and like others said, check with `netsh winhttp show proxy`.

If you’re on Mac, it’s way simpler. Just go to System Preferences > Network > Advanced > Proxies.
Uncheck all the boxes, hit OK, and restart.
For Windows, the other replies covered it well, but yeah—restarting is key. Proxies can be stubborn.

Quick tip: If you’re using a VPN or antivirus, check those too! Some apps (like Avast or NordVPN) mess with proxy settings silently.
Disable them temporarily while you remove the proxy, then re-enable.
Also, Firefox has its own proxy settings (Options > General > Network Settings). Don’t forget that!

Had this issue on Win 11, and the solution was weirdly simple.
Open PowerShell as admin and run:
`Set-ItemProperty -Path "HKCU:\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings" -Name "ProxyEnable" -Value 0`
Then `Restart-Computer -Force`. Boom. Gone.

Yo, if none of this works, your network admin might’ve pushed group policies.
Run `gpresult /h report.html` to check. If it’s enforced, you’ll need admin rights to override.
Otherwise, try resetting your network settings entirely (Settings > Network & Internet > Network Reset).

I tried the Settings > Proxy method first, and it *seemed* to work, but `netsh winhttp show proxy` still showed my old proxy. Then I did the registry edit (backed it up first, don’t worry!), and after a restart, it finally cleared!
Weirdly, Chrome was still acting up until I cleared the cache like someone suggested.
One follow-up: If I reset network settings entirely, will it mess up my Wi-Fi passwords or anything? Just curious for next time.
