Subject: Getting an HTTP 501 - Not Implemented error. Any solutions?

Hey everyone,

So my server’s throwing an http 501 error, and I’m kinda stuck. From what I gather, it means the server doesn’t support whatever request I’m making. But like... why?

I’m using a pretty standard POST request, so I’m confused why it’s “not implemented.” Is this a server config issue? Or maybe something wrong with my headers?

Anyone run into this before? How’d you fix it?

Thanks in advance!

(Also, if anyone knows a quick way to debug this, that’d be awesome. My logs aren’t super helpful rn.)

Hey! Had the same issue last week. Turns out my server wasn’t configured to handle POST requests for that endpoint. Check your server config—maybe the module for POST isn’t enabled?

Also, try Postman to debug. It’s super handy for seeing exactly what’s being sent/received. If you’re using Apache, look for "LimitExcept" in your config.

Hope that helps!

Yo, http 501 errors are usually server-side. Like, the server’s literally saying "I don’t do that." Lol.

Quick thing to try: swap POST to GET and see if it works. If it does, then yeah, your server’s blocking POST.

If you’re using Nginx, check if you’ve got `allow_methods` set up right. Also, curl -v is your friend for debugging headers.

http 501 can be a pain. First, double-check your request headers. Missing Content-Type or Accept headers can sometimes trigger this.

If you’re on a shared host, some of them disable certain methods for "security." Might wanna contact support.

For debugging, I swear by Chrome DevTools or Fiddler. They’ll show you the raw request/response.

501 means the server doesn’t support the method you’re using. Could be:
- Server misconfigured
- Endpoint doesn’t exist
- API version mismatch

Try hitting the same endpoint with a different tool (like Insomnia) to rule out client issues. If it still fails, def a server prob.

Thanks for all the suggestions, folks! Tried the curl -v trick and saw the server’s straight-up ignoring the POST. Switched to GET as a test, and it worked.

Guess it’s a server config thing. Gonna poke my hosting provider about it.

Also, Postman was a lifesaver—totally see why y’all recommended it. Cheers!

Bro, http 501 is the server’s way of saying "nah, not happening."

Check if your endpoint even exists. Like, literally type the URL in your browser and see what happens. If it 404s, you’ve got the wrong path.

Also, some APIs require specific headers or auth. Forgot API key once and got a 501 instead of 401—weird, but happens.

Had this exact issue! For me, it was a dumb typo in the URL. Server was expecting `/api/v2/users` and I was sending `/api/v1/users`.

Run a quick `curl -X POST [your_url] -v` and see what the server responds with. The verbose output might give you a clue.

http 501 usually means the server’s like "I don’t know how to handle this."

If you’re using a framework (like Express or Django), make sure the route is set up to accept POST. Sometimes it’s just a missing `@app.post()` or similar.

For debugging, try logging the request on the server side. If it’s not even reaching your code, it’s a config issue.
