Hey folks,
So my site keeps throwing this annoying 408 http error, and it’s driving me nuts. Like, everything’s fine one second, then BAM—timeout.
From what I’ve read, a 408 http error happens when the server gives up waiting for a request. But why? My connection’s decent, and other sites load fine.
Anyone else dealing with this? Could it be server settings, slow scripts, or just bad luck?
Tried increasing the timeout in my .htaccess, but no dice. Also, Cloudflare’s in the mix—wondering if that’s part of the problem.

Hey! I had the same 408 http issue last month. Turns out it was my hosting provider throttling requests during peak hours.
Switched to a VPS and tweaked the keepalive_timeout in Apache—problem gone.
Also, check if Cloudflare’s "Rocket Loader" is enabled. It messed up my JS and caused timeouts. Disabling it fixed things for me.
Try running a traceroute to see where the delay happens. Tools like Pingdom or GTmetrix might help pinpoint the bottleneck.

- Server overload (check CPU/RAM usage)
- Slow database queries (enable slow query log)
- Cloudflare’s proxy adding latency

Used Query Monitor to find the slowest scripts. Turns out a "social share" plugin was making external calls that timed out. Removed it, and boom—no more 408s.

408 http errors usually mean the server’s waiting too long for a request. If Cloudflare’s in the mix, their 100-second timeout might clash with your server’s settings.

Random thought: Are you using HTTP/2? Some servers freak out with 408 http errors if it’s misconfigured.
Also, if your site’s making tons of API calls, maybe batch them or add retry logic. I’ve had luck with exponential backoff for failed requests.
Chrome DevTools’ "Network" tab is gold for spotting hanging requests.

408 http timeouts drove me insane until I realized my CDN (not Cloudflare) was the issue. The TTL was too low, causing constant revalidation.
Increased TTL and added stale-while-revalidate headers. Fixed it overnight.
Maybe check your CDN settings? Also, Blackfire.io is great for profiling backend slowness.

Yo, 408 http errors suck. Had this happen when my server’s DNS was flaky.
Switched to Google’s 8.8.8.8 DNS and upped the timeout in PHP’s max_execution_time. Also, Cloudflare’s "Always Online" feature sometimes clashes with dynamic content.
Try disabling it and see if that helps.

Long shot, but are you on shared hosting? 408 http errors can happen if your neighbor’s site is hogging resources.
Upgraded to a dedicated server and tweaked MySQL’s wait_timeout. Problem vanished.
Also, maybe your PHP version’s outdated? Upgrading to 8.x fixed some weird timeout issues for me.

Disabled Cloudflare’s Rocket Loader and boom—fewer 408 http errors already. Still seeing some timeouts during peak hours, though.
Gonna test the DNS switch and check slow queries next.
Anyone know if increasing MySQL’s wait_timeout could cause other issues? Don’t wanna break more things lol.
