Is PIA SOCKS5 the best option for secure and private browsing? or How reliable is PIA SOCKS5 for torr - ghostStorm_77 - 24-08-2024

"Does PIA SOCKS5 offer better speeds than a regular VPN connection?"

Hey folks, been testing out pia socks5 lately and wanted to share some thoughts.

So, if you're like me and hate buffering, pia socks5 *might* be a game-changer. Since it doesn’t encrypt traffic like a full VPN, speeds are usually faster—great for streaming or quick downloads.

But here’s the catch: no encryption means less privacy. So if you’re doing anything sensitive, stick with the regular VPN.

Also, speeds can vary depending on your location and server load. Sometimes it’s blazing fast, other times… meh.

Anyone else tried pia socks5 for speed? Curious if your experience matches mine.

(And yeah, I know I misspelled "misspelled" lol.)

Yeah, pia socks5 is definitely faster for me too, especially when torrenting.

But like you said, no encryption = risky for private stuff. I only use it for gaming or streaming where speed matters more.

If you wanna test speeds, try speedtest.net or fast.com before and after switching. Helps see the difference.

Also, try different pia socks5 servers—some are way better than others.

I’ve been using pia socks5 for a while now, and it’s a mixed bag.

Sometimes it’s *insanely* fast, like 2x my regular VPN speed. Other times, it’s barely better.

For privacy, I just stick to the full VPN. But for Netflix? Socks5 all the way.

Pro tip: Use a tool like PingPlotter to check latency. Helps figure out if the slowdown is on your end or PIA’s.

Wait, so pia socks5 doesn’t encrypt at all? That’s wild.

I mean, the speed boost sounds nice, but I’d rather not risk it. Maybe for stuff like YouTube, but not for anything else.

Anyone know if there’s a middle ground? Like faster than VPN but still some encryption?

Dude, pia socks5 is a lifesaver for my seedbox.

Regular VPN slows it down, but socks5? Barely any drop.

Just make sure you’re not using it for anything sketchy. No encryption = no safety net.

For testing, I use iperf3. It’s a bit technical but gives real-deal speed numbers.

Honestly, I don’t get the hype.

Tried pia socks5 for gaming, and yeah, it’s faster, but the ping spikes were brutal.

Sticking with the regular VPN for now. Maybe it’s just my location, though.

Anyone else get weird latency issues?

For me, pia socks5 is *chef’s kiss* when I need raw speed.

But yeah, zero privacy. I only toggle it on for downloads or when my VPN is being sluggish.

If you’re paranoid, use a firewall like GlassWire to monitor traffic. Helps keep things in check.

OP here—thanks for all the replies!

Super helpful to see how others are using pia socks5. Gonna test a few more servers and tools like PingPlotter to see if I can squeeze out more speed.

One follow-up: Anyone using pia socks5 with a proxy switcher? Wondering if that adds any extra lag.

(And yeah, still not using it for anything sensitive lol.)
