"Can Someone Explain How to Track an IP Address Properly?"
Hey guys, kinda new to this but i've been wondering—how to track an ip address properly? Like, what tools actually work without being sketchy?
I’ve seen some sites claim they can do it, but half of em look like scams lol. Are there any legit methods?
Also, is it even legal? Don’t wanna get in trouble just tryna figure out who’s been spamming my discord server.
Any tips or tools u’ve used before? Appreciate the help!

Hey man, tracking an IP isn’t as sketchy as it sounds if you’re doing it for legit reasons like your Discord issue.
For how to track an ip, try using Grabify or IPLogger—they create tracking links you can send to the spammer. If they click it, you get their IP.
Just be careful tho, some platforms block these links. And yeah, it’s legal if you’re not harassing anyone.

lol half those sites ARE scams. For how to track an ip without getting scammed, stick to known tools like Advanced IP Scanner or Angry IP Scanner.
They’re more for networks tho. If you’re dealing with Discord spammers, maybe just report them? Tracking IPs won’t always help since they can use VPNs.

Kinda surprised no one mentioned CMD yet. You can ping a website or use `tracert` to see IP routes. Not super precise for tracking a person but good for basics.
For how to track an ip of a specific user, you’d need something like NetStat if they’re connected to you directly. But again, legal stuff applies—don’t be creepy.

Honestly, most methods for how to track an ip are either too technical or unreliable.
If it’s just Discord, enable server logs or use a bot like Discord Logger. Way easier than chasing IPs.
But if you’re dead set on it, WireShark is powerful but overkill for your needs imo.

Tried Grabify like someone said and got an IP, but it’s probably a VPN. Guess I’ll just ban and report.
One last Q: if I use Wireshark, do I need their direct connection or can it grab IPs from server logs?

Quick tip: if you’re on mobile, forget most of these tools. They’re PC-only.
For how to track an ip from your phone, try Fing (app store). It’s for network scanning but might help.
Still, reporting the spammer is way less hassle. IPs change, bans don’t.
