"Has Anyone Else Noticed a Rise in IPAbuse Lately?"
Hey folks,
Been seeing a *lot* more chatter about ipabuse recently—malicious scans, brute-force attempts, even some sketchy spoofing. Feels like it’s getting worse, or am I just paranoid?
My logs are flooded with suspicious IPs, and it’s not just the usual noise. Anyone else dealing with this?
Also, what’s your go-to move? Blocklists? Rate-limiting? Or just praying to the networking gods?

Yeah, it's wild how much ipabuse has spiked lately. My logs are a mess too—tons of brute-force attempts and random scans.
I’ve had decent luck with CrowdSec + Cloudflare’s WAF. Blocks most of the junk without me lifting a finger. Also, the IPBan project on GitHub is solid for auto-blocking repeat offenders.
Anyone else using Cloudflare? Curious if it’s just me or if their threat intelligence is actually doing heavy lifting.

- AbuseIPDB to check sketchy IPs

Honestly, ipabuse is low-key becoming a nightmare. I run a small e-commerce site, and the scraping attacks alone are insane.
Switched to using Sucuri’s firewall last month, and it’s been a game-changer. Blocks most malicious traffic before it even hits my server. Pricey, but worth it if you’re getting hammered.

Not just you—ipabuse is *everywhere* now. My home lab’s been getting hit with SSH brute-forces daily.
For free options, I’d recommend:
- fail2ban (obviously)
- greylisting with Postfix if you run mail servers
- CSF firewall for Linux
Still, no silver bullet. Just layers of "good enough."

Lots of great tools mentioned (Cloudflare, Sucuri, CrowdSec—gonna test ‘em out). Also, the IPv6 point is interesting; hadn’t even thought about that.
Quick update: Tried fail2ban + AbuseIPDB combo last night, and it’s already blocking a ton. Still getting some sneaky stuff though.
Anyone have tips for dealing with spoofed IPs? Or is that just a lost cause?

Y’all noticing more IPv6 abuse too? Feels like attackers are shifting tactics.
I’ve been testing out Fastly’s edge security, and it’s decent for filtering junk traffic. Also, the Spamhaus DROP list is a lifesaver for known bad IPs.
Still, feels like we’re playing catch-up.

ipabuse is 100% worse than it was a year ago. My theory? More botnets renting out cheap cloud VPSs.
For DIY folks, I’d suggest:
- Setting up Suricata for IDS
- Regularly updating blocklists (like FireHOL)
- Geo-blocking high-risk regions
Not perfect, but cuts down the noise.

I’ve been using Palo Alto’s threat prevention, and it’s *okay*, but false positives are annoying. Also, shoutout to the guys at IP2Location for helping filter by country.
