Hey folks,
So, we all know IPv6 is the future (or at least that's what they keep telling us), but let's be real—most of us are still stuck in IPv4 land. Trying to run IPv6 with IPv4 feels like teaching your grandma to use TikTok. It’s necessary, but painful.
Anyone else dealing with weird compatibility issues? Like, why does some legacy gear just *hate* IPv6 with IPv4 setups? And don’t even get me started on DNS quirks.
What’s working for you? Dual-stack? Tunnels? Or just praying it all magically works?

Dual-stack has been my go-to for ipv6 with ipv4 coexistence, but man, the headaches are real. Some older apps just refuse to play nice with IPv6, even when the OS supports it.
One tool that saved me is Wireshark—helps pinpoint where packets are getting dropped. Also, Happy Eyeballs (yes, that’s a real thing) is great for testing fallback behavior.
Anyone else using tunneling? I’ve had mixed results with 6to4.

Ugh, DNS is the worst part of ipv6 with ipv4 setups. Why does it feel like half the time AAAA records just... vanish?
I’ve started using Cloudflare’s DNS resolver (1.1.1.1) because it handles both protocols smoothly. Also, ping6 and traceroute6 are lifesavers for debugging.
Pro tip: Disable IPv6 on devices that don’t need it. Less chaos.

Honestly, I gave up and just went full NAT64 for now. Not ideal, but it works until we can phase out IPv4 entirely.
For testing, HE’s IPv6 tunnel broker is solid if your ISP drags their feet. Also, ipv6-test.com is a quick way to check your config.
Anyone else feel like we’re building a bridge while walking on it?

The struggle is real! We’re running dual-stack but had to whitelist certain subnets because some legacy gear just *freaks out* with ipv6 with ipv4 traffic.
Teredo tunneling worked okay for a bit, but performance was meh. Now we’re slowly replacing old hardware instead.
Side note: RFC 6555 (Happy Eyeballs) is a must-read for anyone dealing with this mess.

Wow, didn’t expect so many responses! Dual-stack seems to be the winner, but I’m definitely checking out Happy Eyeballs and HE’s tunnel broker.
Quick update: Tried disabling IPv6 on a few problem devices, and... it actually helped? Still weird DNS issues though.
Anyone got a magic fix for AAAA records timing out? Or is that just life now?

Kidding (mostly). But seriously, dual-stack is the way if you can swing it. For tools, Nmap with the -6 flag helps scan IPv6 networks, and socat is great for testing connectivity.
Biggest headache? Firewall rules. Why are they always twice as complicated with ipv6 with ipv4?

We’re using 464XLAT for our mobile devices, and it’s been surprisingly smooth. Still, some apps just don’t get the memo and fail silently.
For diagnostics, mtr (My TraceRoute) with IPv6 support is gold. Also, Google’s Public DNS (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4) handles dual-stack well.
Anyone else notice IPv6 adoption feels like herding cats?

We’re stuck with ISATAP for some legacy systems, and it’s... not great. But HE’s tunnel broker is a decent stopgap.
Biggest tip: Document *everything*. You’ll forget why you made that one weird routing rule at 2 AM.
