"Does a Proxy Detector Really Stop VPNs and Proxies?"

Hey guys, been wondering about this for a while. So many sites claim their proxy detector is unbeatable, but like... how accurate are they *really*?

I’ve seen some VPNs and proxies slip through, especially the residential ones. Are these tools just overhyped, or do they actually block most sneaky traffic?

Also, anyone know if a proxy detector can keep up with advanced masking tools? Feels like a cat-and-mouse game sometimes lol.

Would love to hear your experiences—especially if you’ve tested different ones. Cheers!

Honestly, most proxy detector tools are hit or miss. The free ones? Forget about it—they barely catch anything.

But paid services like IPQS or MaxMind actually do a decent job at flagging VPNs and datacenter IPs. Residential proxies are trickier though, especially if they’re rotating.

It’s def a cat-and-mouse game. The second a proxy detector gets updated, someone finds a workaround.

From my experience, it depends on how the proxy detector is implemented. Some just check blacklists, which is useless against fresh IPs.

Tools like BrightData’s proxy detection or FraudLabs Pro go deeper with behavioral analysis and fingerprinting. They’re not perfect, but they block way more than basic scripts.

If you’re serious about stopping sneaky traffic, you gotta layer multiple methods.

Lol yeah, it’s totally a game of whack-a-mole. I’ve tested a bunch, and even the “best” proxy detectors miss stuff.

Cloudflare’s firewall is pretty solid for blocking known VPNs, but custom proxies? Good luck.

Also, some sites overblock and annoy legit users. Balance is key.

I run an e-commerce site, and we use a combo of IP2Location and custom rules.

Most proxy detectors fail against high-quality residential IPs, but they’re great for stopping low-effort spam.

If you’re getting hit hard, look into fingerprinting JS or CAPTCHA challenges. Slows down bots at least.

Proxies are evolving faster than detection tools, tbh.

Services like IPHub claim 99% accuracy, but in reality, it’s more like 70-80%.

Best bet? Pair a proxy detector with rate limiting. No tool is foolproof alone.

Wow, thanks for all the insights! Didn’t realize how nuanced this was.

Gonna test IPQS and Sucuri based on your recs. Also, the combo approach makes sense—no single tool seems perfect.

Anyone tried stacking a proxy detector with a WAF? Curious if that’s overkill or worth it.

Kinda skeptical about these tools. Tried a few, and they flagged my legit traffic as proxies. False positives are a pain.

That said, Sucuri’s proxy detection isn’t bad. Still, manual review is sometimes needed.

Anyone else deal with overblocking?

Residential proxies are the worst to detect. Even advanced proxy detectors struggle because the IPs look legit.

I’ve had some success with PerimeterX—it uses machine learning to spot patterns. But it’s $$$.

Free tools? Nah, don’t waste your time.

It’s all about the database quality. Cheap proxy detectors use outdated lists.

Check out GetIPIntel—it’s got a good rep for accuracy. Still, nothing’s 100%.

And yeah, masking tools are always one step ahead. Annoying af.
