uBlock vs uBlock Origin – which one’s actually better?

Hey folks, been using uBlock Origin for ages but just stumbled on "uBlock" (no "Origin") and now I’m confused.

What’s the diff? Heard uBlock Origin’s the legit one, but uBlock’s still around... which one’s safer/more reliable?

Also, why are there two?? Feels sketchy lol.

Anyone got the scoop on ublock vs ublock origin? Which do *you* use and why?

(pls don’t say "just use both" – my browser’s slow enough already 😅)

Honestly, ublock origin is the way to go. The original dev abandoned ublock and someone else took over, but ublock origin is still maintained by the OG creator.

I’ve tried both and ublock origin just works better—less bloat, more control. Plus, it’s open-source so you can check the code yourself if you’re paranoid lol.

If you wanna dig deeper, check out the github pages for both. That’s where the real tea is.

Wait, there’s a difference?? I’ve been using plain ublock for years and never noticed anything weird.

But now that you mention it, I looked it up and yeah, ublock origin seems to have more updates. Might switch over just to be safe.

Why do they even have two?? So confusing smh.

ublock origin 100%. The other one (ublock) is basically abandoned and has shady ownership.

Origin gets frequent updates, better filter lists, and no weird extra stuff. It’s lighter too, which is great if your browser’s already slow.

Check out the r/privacy subreddit—they’ve got tons of threads on ublock vs ublock origin.

I was in the same boat! Did some digging and found out ublock origin is the legit version. The other one’s kinda sketch now.

Origin’s also way more customizable. You can tweak everything, which is great if you’re a control freak like me.

Try both for a day and you’ll see the difference. Origin just feels smoother.

Okay, so I tried both after reading this thread and… yeah, ublock origin is definitely better.

The other one felt clunky and slow, and I couldn’t even find some of the settings I use in origin.

Thanks for the advice, everyone! Gonna stick with origin from now on.

Also, why are there two?? Still confused about that part lol.

Short answer: ublock origin.

Long answer: ublock origin is actively maintained, has better support, and doesn’t have any of the drama the other one has.

The naming thing is super confusing tho, not gonna lie. Whoever thought that was a good idea needs a timeout.

lol this is like the chrome vs chromium debate but for adblockers.

ublock origin is the one you want. The other one’s basically a zombie—still around but not really alive.

Also, origin works with way more filter lists. If you’re into privacy, that’s a huge plus.

Fun fact: ublock origin isn’t just “better,” it’s the *only* one you should use. The other one’s got a weird history with the dev handing it off to someone else.

Origin’s also got way more community support. Check the github issues if you don’t believe me—people actually care about it.

I switched from ublock to ublock origin last year and never looked back.

Origin’s lighter, faster, and doesn’t have any of the weirdness the other one does. Plus, the dev is super transparent about updates.

If you’re on the fence, just make the jump. You won’t regret it.
