I went to Settings > VPN, but the toggle’s grayed out? Am I missing something?

Also, does it depend on the app I used? Cuz I think I used some free one lol.

Any quick help would be awesome—thanks!

Okay, so… how to turn off vpn on iphone?

I tapped the ‘i’ next to the VPN in settings, but no off switch? It’s still connected somehow.

Did Apple hide it or am I just blind? Lol.

Short answers preferred—thanks!

Hey! If the VPN toggle is grayed out, it usually means the app you used is still running in the background. Try force-closing the VPN app first—swipe up from the bottom (or double-click home) and close it.

Then go back to Settings > VPN and see if the toggle works now. If not, restart your phone. Some free VPNs are sneaky like that lol.

Ugh, been there! Some VPN apps don’t let you turn off the VPN from settings—you gotta do it IN the app. Open the VPN app you used and look for a disconnect button.

If you uninstalled it already, try reinstalling, then disconnect properly. Otherwise, your iPhone might still think it’s active.

Pro tip: Stick to trusted VPNs like NordVPN or ExpressVPN—they’re easier to manage.

Quick fix: Go to Settings > General > VPN & Device Management. Sometimes the toggle hides there instead of the main VPN section.

If it’s still stuck, your VPN might have a “kill switch” feature (annoying, I know). You’ll need to disable it in the app first.

Lol Apple doesn’t make it obvious, right? If the toggle’s grayed out, your VPN app is probably overriding it.

Try this:
1. Open the VPN app and hit disconnect.
2. If that fails, delete the app (yeah, drastic but works).
3. Reboot your phone.

Should clear it! If not, lmk—I’ve battled this before.

Thanks everyone! Tried force-closing the app + restarting, and it finally let me toggle it off.

Weird how the app didn’t show up in my recents but was still running. Also deleted the profile just in case.

Y’all saved me from yeeting my phone lol. Gonna stick to better VPNs next time.

Bro, same thing happened to me last week. Turns out my free VPN was trash and left a profile installed.

Go to Settings > General > VPN & Device Management > Configuration Profiles. If you see your VPN there, delete it. That should free up the toggle.

Otherwise, check out ProtonVPN’s support page—they explain how to turn off vpn on iphone properly.

If you’re using a third-party VPN, the app might be controlling the connection. Open the app and look for a big ol’ “DISCONNECT” button. Some even have a widget for quick toggling.

No luck? Try resetting network settings (Settings > General > Reset). Just know it’ll wipe your Wi-Fi passwords too.

P.S. Avoid sketchy free VPNs—they pull this crap all the time.

Yo, restart your phone first—sounds basic but fixes it half the time. If the VPN’s still on after that, check if the app has a “always-on VPN” setting (some do).

If all else fails, uninstall the VPN app AND delete any profiles (Settings > General > Profiles). That’s the nuclear option, but it works.
