IPv4 is the flip phone of the internet. IPv6 is the smartphone.

Difference between ipv4 and ipv6? IPv6 has enough addresses for every grain of sand on Earth (seriously). But some networks still treat it like an optional feature.

For a deep dive, [IANA’s IPv6 docs](https://www.iana.org/numbers) are solid.
Wow, thanks for all the replies! The difference between ipv4 and ipv6 makes way more sense now—especially the part about NAT and address space.

I tried test-ipv6.com and turns out my ISP *does* support IPv6, but my router’s being weird. Gonna poke at settings later.

Quick follow-up: Anyone know if IPv6 actually makes gaming or streaming faster, or is it mostly future-proofing?

(And yeah, the undecillion thing blew my mind.)
