"Which Growlanser Entry Should I Start With as a Newcomer?"

Hey everyone! I’ve been hearing a lot about the Growlanser series lately, and I’m kinda curious to dive in. But with so many titles, I’m not sure where to start.

Some folks say *Growlanser: Heritage of War* is the most accessible, while others swear by *Growlanser II* or *IV* for the story.

What’s the best one for a newbie? I don’t mind older graphics, but I wanna get hooked on the characters and gameplay. Also, are any of 'em super hard to find or play these days?

Thanks in advance for the recs!
Honestly, if you're new to growlanser, I'd say start with Growlanser II: The Sense of Justice. It's got a solid story and introduces the gameplay mechanics well.

The PSP version (part of Growlanser: Wayfarer of Time) is easier to find than the PS2 original. Check eBay or local retro shops if you want physical, but emulation might be simpler.

Just avoid Heritage of War first—it’s kinda divisive among fans.
Growlanser IV: Wayfarer of Time is the best entry point, hands down. The story’s self-contained, the characters are memorable, and the tactical gameplay is polished.

Plus, it’s on PSP, so it’s not too hard to track down. If you’re cool with digital, you might find it on the PSN store.

Older titles are great, but IV hooks you faster.
I started with Growlanser: Heritage of War and regretted it lol. The gameplay’s clunky, and the story’s meh compared to the others.

Go for Growlanser III or IV instead. III’s got a darker tone, while IV’s more balanced.

If you’re emulating, check out CDRomance for ISOs—just saying.
Growlanser II and III are my personal faves, but they’re harder to find physically. If you don’t mind older graphics, II’s a great intro to the series’ vibe.

The fan translation for the first Growlanser is rough but playable if you’re desperate. Otherwise, stick with the PSP titles.
Why not just play them in order? Growlanser I (fan-translated) sets up the world, even if it’s janky.

But if you want something polished, Growlanser IV is the way to go. The branching paths and multiple endings give it replay value too.

Check forums like Hardcore Gaming 101 for more deep dives.
Growlanser VI: Heritage of War is... not the best starting point. It’s got issues.

IV or II are way better for newcomers. IV’s on PSP, so it’s accessible, and II’s got that classic charm.

If you’re into tactical RPGs, you’ll dig either one.
Thanks for all the recs, everyone! Sounds like Growlanser IV is the way to go for me.

I’ll check out the PSP version—hopefully it’s not too pricey.

Quick follow-up: does IV have any major missables? I hate missing out on cool stuff in my first playthrough.
Growlanser IV is the most beginner-friendly, but III has the best story imo.

If you can handle older games, start with II. Otherwise, IV’s your best bet.

Emulation’s your friend if you can’t find physical copies.
Honestly, just skip Growlanser V unless you’re a diehard fan. It’s not bad, but it’s not the best intro.

IV’s the sweet spot—great story, solid gameplay, and not too hard to find.
