"Help! 'Method Not Allowed 405' – What's Causing This and How to Fix?"

Hey guys,

So I keep getting this *method not allowed 405* error when trying to submit a form on my site. Super annoying!

I checked the request type (POST/GET), and it *seems* right, but still no luck. Anyone else run into this?

Maybe it’s a server config thing? Or could the endpoint just not accept the method I’m using?

Any quick fixes or things I should double-check?

Thanks in advance!

Yo,

Stuck with a *method not allowed 405* error outta nowhere.

Was working fine yesterday, now boom—405. Tried switching from POST to GET, but nah.

Is it a routing issue? Permissions?

If you’ve dealt with this before, pls share how you fixed it.

Appreciate any tips!

Ugh, *method not allowed 405* is driving me nuts.

API call was fine, then suddenly this. Double-checked the HTTP method—it’s correct.

Is the server blocking it? Missing headers?

Help a dev out! What am I missing?

Short & sweet answers welcome. Thx!
Ah, the dreaded method not allowed 405 error! Had this happen last week. Turns out my backend route was only set up for GET, but my frontend was sending POST.

Quick fix: check your server-side routing (like in Express, Django, or Flask) to make sure the endpoint accepts the method you're using.

If you're using Postman, test the endpoint directly—sometimes the error shows more details there.
Yo, 405 gang! Had this issue with my API.

For me, it was CORS blocking the request. Added `Access-Control-Allow-Methods: POST, GET` to the server headers and boom, fixed.

Also, check if your form action URL is correct. A typo there can trigger method not allowed 405 too.
Method not allowed 405 usually means the server straight-up refuses the HTTP method you're sending.

Double-check:
- Is your endpoint configured for POST/GET?
- Are you accidentally sending OPTIONS? (common with CORS preflight)
- Any middleware blocking the request?

Try curling the endpoint to see the raw response.
Ugh, 405s are the worst.

If you’re using a framework like Laravel or Rails, sometimes the route is defined but the method isn’t whitelisted.

Run `php artisan route:list` (Laravel) or `rake routes` (Rails) to see what methods are allowed.

Also, check for typos in the route definition.
Hey! Had this exact issue yesterday.

For me, it was a dumb mistake—I was using PUT in the frontend but the backend only accepted POST.

DevTools network tab helped me spot it. Look for the "Request Method" in the headers.

If you’re using fetch/Axios, triple-check the method parameter!
Method not allowed 405 can also happen if your server’s rewrite rules (like in .htaccess) are messing with the request.

If you’re on Apache, check if mod_rewrite is altering the method.

Or if you’re using Nginx, verify the location block allows the method.

Sometimes restarting the server magically fixes it too lol.
Thanks for all the tips, folks!

Turns out it *was* a CORS issue—my backend wasn’t allowing POST. Added the right headers and it’s working now.

Weird thing is, it was fine locally but broke in prod. Gotta love deployment quirks, right?

Appreciate the help!
405 errors are usually a server-side thing.

If you’re using a REST API, make sure the endpoint isn’t missing the method in its definition.

For example, in Express:
```javascript
app.post('/submit', handler) // NOT app.get('/submit', handler)
```

Also, tools like Insomnia or Postman can help debug by sending raw requests.
