Subject: Struggling with Proxy Settings – How to Turn Off Proxy?
Hey everyone,
I’m kinda stuck here and could use some help. For some reason, my device’s proxy settings are enabled, and I have no idea how to turn off proxy. Tried googling but the steps are confusing af.
Anyone know a simple way to disable it? I’m on Windows 10 btw, but tips for other devices are welcome too!
Thanks in advance, y’all. Appreciate it!
(Also, sorry if this has been asked before—I’m in a bit of a hurry 😅)
Hey! I had the same issue last week. For Windows 10, go to Settings > Network & Internet > Proxy.
Under "Manual proxy setup," just toggle off "Use a proxy server." Super easy!
If it’s grayed out, your admin might’ve locked it. Try running as admin or check group policy. Hope this helps!
ugh proxies are the worst. If the normal way doesn’t work, try this:
1. Press Win + R, type "inetcpl.cpl" and hit Enter.
2. Go to Connections > LAN settings.
3. Uncheck "Use a proxy server for your LAN."
Sometimes Windows gets weird with how to turn off proxy, so this might bypass the settings menu.
If you’re still stuck, try using a tool like Proxy Switcher (free version works fine). It lets you toggle proxies on/off with one click.
Also, check if any VPN or malware is forcing the proxy. Happened to me once and it was a pain.
Good luck!
Bro, same. Windows 10 proxy settings can be glitchy.
Quick fix: Open Command Prompt as admin and paste:
`netsh winhttp reset proxy`
This resets the proxy settings to default. Works like a charm for how to turn off proxy issues.
For anyone on Mac, it’s in System Preferences > Network > Advanced > Proxies. Just uncheck the active ones.
Windows users, the other replies got you covered. But yeah, proxies can be sneaky—double-check for any background apps messing with settings.
If you’re in a hurry, just restart your PC. Sometimes Windows forgets its own settings lol.
But seriously, the LAN settings method (inetcpl.cpl) is the most reliable for how to disable proxy. Let us know if it works!
Hey OP, just wanted to say thanks for all the tips! The "netsh winhttp reset proxy" command worked instantly.
No idea why the settings menu was being so stubborn, but this saved me. Appreciate y’all!
(Also, gonna run a malware scan just in case 😅)
Pro tip: If the proxy keeps turning back on, scan for malware. Some adware forces proxies to redirect traffic.
Malwarebytes is free and great for this. Otherwise, the netsh command above is gold.
