"Proxy or VPN – what’s the best choice for secure browsing?"

hey guys, new here and kinda confused about this whole proxy or vpn thing. like, which one actually keeps my stuff private? i’ve heard VPNs are better for security, but proxies are faster... but idk if that’s true?

also, does a proxy or vpn hide my IP *completely*? or is one of them just half-assing it?

i mostly just wanna stream and browse without my ISP breathing down my neck lol. any tips?

(ps. sorry if this has been asked a million times, but the more i google, the more mixed answers i get smh)

thanks!
If you're just trying to stream and browse privately, a VPN is the way to go. Proxies might be faster, but they don’t encrypt your traffic like a VPN does.

Your ISP can still see what you’re doing with a proxy, but a VPN hides everything. Check out NordVPN or ExpressVPN—they’re solid for privacy and speed.

And yeah, both can hide your IP, but a VPN does it *way* better.
proxies are like putting a mask on, but VPNs are like becoming invisible.

if you wanna stop your ISP from snooping, VPN 100%.

try windscribe or protonvpn if you want free options (but paid is always better).
Honestly, it depends on what you're doing. For basic browsing, a proxy might be enough, but if you're serious about privacy, VPN is the winner.

Proxies don’t encrypt, so your data’s still exposed. VPNs like Surfshark or CyberGhost encrypt everything, making it way harder for anyone to track you.

And yes, both hide your IP, but a VPN does it more reliably.
i used to think proxies were fine until i realized they’re basically useless for real privacy lol.

VPNs encrypt your whole connection, not just reroute it. if you’re streaming, go with a VPN—your ISP won’t know a thing.

mullvad is great if you want no-logs and good speeds.
OP here—thanks for all the replies! sounds like VPN is the way to go for real privacy.

i tried expressvpn and it’s working great so far. no more ISP throttling when i stream, which is awesome.

one more q: do you guys use any extra tools with your VPN, like ad blockers? or is the VPN enough?
Proxies are faster for stuff like geo-unblocking, but they’re not secure. VPNs are slower but actually protect you.

If you’re just trying to watch Netflix, a proxy might work, but for real privacy, VPN all the way.

PIA (Private Internet Access) is a good balance of speed and security.
VPNs are overkill if you’re just trying to hide your IP for casual browsing. Proxies can do that just fine.

But if you’re paranoid about privacy (like me), then yeah, VPN is better.

I use IVPN—super strict on privacy and works great.
both proxy and vpn hide your IP, but only a VPN encrypts your traffic.

so if you’re just trying to bypass geo-blocks, proxy is fine. but if you want actual security, VPN is the move.

expressvpn is my go-to—fast and reliable.
proxies are like a cheap lock on your door. VPNs are like a vault.

if you’re just messing around, sure, use a proxy. but if you care about privacy, get a VPN.

i’ve had good luck with tunnelbear—easy to use and solid encryption.
