A proxy server for PS4 is basically like a middleman, yeah. It hides your IP and can help with stuff like accessing region-locked games or speeding up downloads if the proxy is faster than your ISP.
But be careful, some proxies can slow you down if they’re overloaded. As for bans, Sony doesn’t explicitly ban proxies, but if you’re doing shady stuff, they might notice.
To set it up, go to Network Settings > Set Up Internet Connection > Use Wi-Fi/LAN > Custom > Proxy Server. You’ll need the proxy IP and port from a provider. I’ve used NordVPN’s proxy servers before, and they work fine.
