Man, this Google address autocomplete vs Smarty thing is such a headache. I went with Smarty for a project last year because of the cost, and while it’s not perfect, it’s been reliable.
One thing I’d recommend is testing both with your actual user base. Sometimes the “clunkiness” of Smarty isn’t as noticeable to end users as it is to us devs.
