From what I’ve seen, the app *does* hide your phone number, but only if you use the relay. If you don’t, your number’s out there for everyone to see.
If you’re paranoid, just skip the number altogether. Use the email relay or get a temp number from an app like Hushed. It’s cheap and you can delete the number when you’re done.
