So, I’ve been diving into this whole *proxy data* thing lately, and it’s kinda blowing my mind. Like, how accurate can tree rings, ice cores, or sediment layers *really* be in telling us about historical climate trends?
I get that proxy data is super useful when we don’t have direct measurements, but doesn’t it feel like we’re missing *something*? Like, what if there’s a big piece of the puzzle that proxy data just can’t capture?
Also, how do we even know if the proxies we’re using are consistent over time? Like, what if a tree had a bad year and didn’t grow much—does that mess up the whole trend?
Idk, maybe I’m overthinking it, but I’d love to hear what y’all think. Can proxy data *really* give us the full picture, or are we just working with the best we’ve got?
