The "is your public IP dangerous" thing is real, but it's not as scary as it sounds. Most people are fine as long as they take basic precautions.
I use a VPN (IPVanish) and keep my devices updated. Also, I use a password manager (LastPass) to make sure my accounts are secure.
If you're still worried, check out your IP's exposure with tools like Shodan. It's a bit technical, but it gives you a lot of info.
