If you’re into scenic drives, skip the highway and take 301 N like the OP said. It’s such a vibe, especially in the fall.
For gas, I’d recommend stopping in Arcadia—it’s about halfway and has a few good stations.
And yeah, snacks are a must. I always pack some trail mix and water.
