Hey, I had this exact issue last week! The proxy node protonvpn requires a username and password chrome popup kept showing up, and it was driving me crazy. Turns out, it was a conflict with another VPN extension I had installed.
I removed all VPN-related extensions, reinstalled ProtonVPN, and it worked fine after that. Maybe check if you have any other VPN or proxy extensions enabled? Sometimes they clash and cause weird issues.
