Can Reddit Actually Detect VPN Usage? How Reliable Is It?

From what I’ve seen, reddit able to detect vpn but doesn’t always act on it. I’ve used ProtonVPN for months, and it’s been fine. But I’ve heard some users get banned if they’re using shared IPs. Maybe it’s about how the VPN handles IP rotation?
