Can Someone Explain How a Proxy Chain Works and Why It’s Useful?

Hey everyone,
So, I’ve been hearing about this thing called a proxy chain, and I’m kinda confused. Like, how does it even work? From what I gather, it’s basically a bunch of proxies linked together, right? So your data hops through multiple servers before reaching the destination.

But why tho? Is it just for extra security or something? I mean, I get that it makes tracking harder, but does it slow things down a lot? Also, is it worth the hassle for casual browsing or just for super private stuff?

If anyone can break it down in simple terms, that’d be awesome. Like, ELI5-level lol. Thanks in advance!

P.S. If I’m totally off about the whole proxy chain thing, pls correct me. 😅
