I’ve been experimenting with card scrapers for a while now, and I’ve found that using a combination of a diamond file and burnishing works best for me.
I sharpen mine every 2-3 uses, but it really depends on the wood I’m working with. Hardwoods dull the edge faster, so I end up sharpening more often.
If you’re looking for a quick fix, try the DMT Diafold. It’s portable and gets the job done in a pinch.
