Can someone explain what is CSV format in simple terms? or What is CSV format and why is it so common

I tried opening a csv in Notepad and Excel—kinda wild how simple it is. Also downloaded CSV Explorer like someone suggested, and it’s way easier for quick checks.

One follow-up: What if my data has commas *inside* the values? Like "Smith, John". Does that break the file?
