Proxy vs reverse proxy – what's the diff and when to use each?
Hey all, been digging into this whole proxy vs reverse proxy thing and tbh, it’s a bit confusing at first.
From what I get:
- A *proxy* sits in front of clients (like your browser) and hides *their* identity when accessing stuff online. Think VPNs or bypassing geo-blocks.
- A *reverse proxy* sits in front of servers, hiding *them* instead. Like load balancing or adding SSL for a bunch of backend servers.
But when do you actually use one over the other? If I’m just tryna hide my IP, obv a normal proxy. But if I’m running a website and wanna spread traffic, reverse proxy?
Am I missing something? Would love to hear how y’all use ‘em in real setups!
(Also, pls correct me if I’m totally off lol)
