UPDATE: Whoa, thanks for all the suggestions! The command prompt trick (`netsh winhttp reset proxy`) totally worked.

Weirdly, my browser was still acting up, but resetting Chrome’s proxy settings fixed it. Didn’t realize browsers could ignore system settings like that.

Still gotta help my Mac friend—gonna try the Terminal command next.
