Newbie question: What does it mean to parse data or code?
Hey folks, dumb question incoming lol.
I keep hearing "parse this, parse that" in coding tutorials, but like... *what does it mean to parse* exactly? Is it just fancy talk for reading stuff?
From what I gather, parsing is basically breaking down data or code into smaller bits so the computer can understand it. Like, if you’re parsing a sentence, you’re figuring out the nouns, verbs, etc. Same with code—it’s about making sense of the structure.
But why’s it such a big deal? Well, without parsing, your code wouldn’t know what to do with raw data. It’s like trying to eat a pizza whole instead of slicing it first. Messy and pointless.
Am I close? Or totally off? 😅
(Also, sorry for typos, typing on my phone.)
