Honestly, open proxies are a gamble. You’re right—anyone can set one up, and there’s zero guarantee they’re not logging your data or worse, injecting malware. At least with a VPN, you’re paying for a service that (hopefully) has a reputation to uphold.

If you’re really broke, ProtonVPN has a free tier that’s way safer than rolling the dice on some random open proxy.

But yeah, sketchy af.
