"Why Is My Windows Proxy Server Running Slow and How Can I Fix It?"

So I set up a windows proxy server a while back, and lately, it’s been crawling like a snail. Pages take forever to load, and timeouts are driving me nuts. Anyone else dealt with this?
I’ve checked the basics—bandwidth isn’t maxed out, and the hardware *should* be enough. Maybe it’s the caching settings? Or too many clients hogging the connection?
Also, does tweaking the connection limits or timeout values in the windows proxy server settings actually help? Or am I missing something obvious?
Would love some tips or even a sanity check. Thanks in advance!
