Ugh, proxies are the worst. But here’s what worked for me:

DON’T set proxy settings in both places at once. Pick one—system-wide OR browser. Otherwise, they fight each other.

Also, double-check your proxy IP and port. A typo there kills everything.

For Linux, `gsettings` or `export` works. Mac? System Prefs > Network > Advanced > Proxies.
