Oh yeah, it’s been garbage. The ie legacy plugin crashes half the time for me too.
Try resetting Edge’s settings (edge://settings/reset). Fixed some weird behavior for me.
If you’re tech-savvy, you could also mess with the registry to force IE mode, but that’s a last resort.
