"Newbie question: What is a proxy setting and how do I configure it?"

Hey everyone, total noob here trying to figure this out.

So, *what is a proxy setting* exactly? From what I gather, it’s like a middleman between my device and the internet. Instead of connecting directly to a website, my traffic goes through this proxy server first. Sounds kinda sneaky, but also useful?

Why would I even need one? Maybe to hide my IP, access blocked sites, or just speed things up? Idk, someone enlighten me.

Also, how the heck do I set it up? Is it just flipping a switch in settings or do I need some tech wizardry?
