Torrent proxies *can* work, but they’re not foolproof. I’ve used BTGuard in the past, and it was alright, but speeds were inconsistent.
These days, I just use a seedbox. No proxy, no VPN, just a remote server doing all the work. Check out Ultra.cc or Whatbox if you’re curious.
