Proxy server vs reverse proxy - what's the diff and when do I need which?
Hey all, kinda confused here. I get that both proxy server vs reverse proxy handle traffic, but like... how are they *actually* different?
From what I’ve read, a regular proxy sits between *me* and the internet (hiding my IP, filtering stuff), while a reverse proxy sits in front of *servers* (load balancing, security, etc). But is that it?
Also, when would I pick one over the other? Like, if I’m just trying to browse anonymously, is a reverse proxy overkill? Or if I’m running a website, do I *need* a reverse proxy?
Kinda lost in the jargon tbh. Anyone got a simple breakdown or real-world examples?
