An http proxy server is basically a go-between for you and the internet. You connect to it, it connects to the site, and the site only sees the proxy’s info.
But—big but—it’s not super private. No encryption, so your ISP (or anyone snooping) can still see what you’re doing. It’s more for unblocking sites than hiding your tracks.
