"Can someone explain forward proxy vs reverse proxy in plain terms?"
Hey all,
I keep hearing about forward proxy vs reverse proxy, but tbh, I’m kinda lost. Like, aren’t they both just... proxies?
From what I gather, a *forward proxy* sits in front of clients (like us) and hides *our* requests from servers. Think of it like a middleman for *outbound* traffic—good for privacy or bypassing restrictions.
But a *reverse proxy*? That’s on the *server* side. It handles incoming requests, like load balancing or hiding server details. So it’s more about protecting/scaling the backend.
Am I close? Or totally off? Would love a simple breakdown or real-world examples.
Thanks!
(Also, if you’ve got opinions on when to use which, drop ‘em below 👀)
