Honestly, the reverse proxy vs proxy thing clicked for me when I started self-hosting.
Normal proxy = your device talks to it first (outbound).
Reverse proxy = servers talk to it first (inbound).
For reverse proxy, Caddy is underrated—automatic HTTPS is a lifesaver. NGINX is powerful but has a steeper learning curve.
If you're just starting, maybe play with both on a small project?
