Is a pirate proxy server still the best way to bypass restrictions? or How reliable are pirate proxy

Used a pirate proxy server once to watch a game. Worked, but my antivirus freaked out afterward. Not worth the risk imo.

VPNs are slower but way safer. Even free ones like TunnelBear are better than rolling the dice with some random proxy.
